Brendan Farrelly’s ties to ElderHelp extend back to his childhood when his own grandmother, then a North Park resident, was able to utilize ElderHelp’s services to continue living independently. He feels tremendous gratitude toward the organization for helping his grandmother. When a friend asked him to join the Essence of Life Committee in 2014, it was an easy decision to make; he felt this was the perfect opportunity to repay a favor. He was later asked to join ElderHelp’s board and has been an active board member ever since.

“Every senior deserves the opportunity to thrive in their own home,” he says and he is proud of ElderHelp’s work to help them stay at home for as long as they’d like rather than forced into assisted living simply because it’s inconvenient or too expensive to be in their own home. “I also love that our services are donation-based; it removes barriers and promotes dignity.”

When looking to the future, Brendan would like to see more partners align with ElderHelp to expand the reach. “Ensuring the senior population is aware of ElderHelp’s services and supporting each other is a great way to work together on their behalf.”

Brendan believes the COVID-19 crisis could be a pivotal moment for seniors. ElderHelp’s work has been in the spotlight a bit more, making a strong case that seniors are worthy of our attention– something that Brendan has known personally for his entire life.
