JOIN US FOR

“AN EVENT LIKE NO OTHER”

Planning for Essence of Life 2021 is underway! Prioritizing the health and well-being of our community, we’ll present “An Event Like No Other.” We know that honoring the strength and resilience of our community is essential to its endurance. We know there are heroes among us who deserve recognition. We know that setting aside time to celebrate will enrich our lives and inspire others to join our mission.

In addition to our exciting auction, we’ll recognize distinguished honorees through special tribute videos and stories as we launch a week of festivities to entertain, enlighten, and engage you–our caring community.

We invite you to join us as a sponsor, auction donor and guest. With your help we make it possible for seniors to receive vital services they need to live independently with dignity in their own homes.

Because of you, we celebrate the true Essence of Life as we watch our community rise to help seniors in need.

Thank you.

2021 Honorees

KRISTEN CHAZAUD

AMBASSADOR

Kristen seeks challenges and finds solutions. As owner of Keepsake Companions, Kristen embraces and supports the needs of older adults in our community, not just as a business, but as a passion. “I see no boundaries,” cites Kristen when asked about helping seniors. “We have to work together as a society to take care of all people.” Kristen’s advocacy for older adults has epic impact with global reach–through ElderHelp, through legislative involvement, and through relentless efforts to create a better world for all.

MICHELE KINKADE

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

As one of 11 children, Michele was raised by parents who believed in serving. After retiring from a career in systems engineering, Michele joined ElderHelp’s volunteer team as a friendly visitor, Seniors A Go Go driver, and office volunteer making check-in calls on Friday mornings. Overhearing staff discuss implementation of a new software system, Michele jumped in to help—giving us more time with clients and helping us work more efficiently.

THE SYCUAN BAND OF THE KUMEYAAY NATION

CORPORATE PARTNER

Honoring a rich tradition of respect for elders, The Sycuan Band of Kumeyaay Indians supports local seniors. We are grateful for a 20 year partnership that spans program support, volunteer service, and in-kind donations that directly improve the lives older adults.

LIEUTENANT COLONEL JOHN SEISSIGER

INSPIRATIONAL SENIOR

Enlisting at age 17, John’s service to country as a US Marine spanned 30 years. He fought in three wars, came home, earned a Master’s degree from SDSU, and built a life in San Diego as a CPA. But ask John about his astounding accomplishments, and he’ll humbly tell you that he “had nothing better to do.” Lee Covell, John’s former employer–now friend and companion—is honored to support this hero who lives independently in his home.

THE G.O.L.D. DIGGERS

Gifts of Loving Donors

COMMUNITY PARTNER

Founded on the principles of Philanthropy, Friendship, & Community, the G.O.L.D. Diggers set out to make “Gifts Of Loving Donors” to San Diego’s most vulnerable populations. From a core group of just four women, they’ve donated over $715,000 over the past 25 years to worthy causes San Diego causes. We at ElderHelp are honored to be one of them. Through their famous “Hats Off” events, they build community awareness and raise not only valuable funding, but also the spirits of everyone they encounter.

GILBERT OLSON

CYNTHIA HANSEN MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

As ElderHelp’s Program Coordinator, Cynthia had a gentle, yet direct approach to making sure seniors received the vital services they needed.  Honoring her memory, we’re recognizing Gilbert Olson a client who loves and appreciates his rides through Seniors A Go Go and the friendly visitors who spend time chatting about times gone by.

“All San Diegans need to pay attention to this vulnerable population. Congratulations to ElderHelp for finding innovative solutions that help seniors live independently in their homes.”
