“Seniors’ minds are vivid. Their lives are rich. There is an abundance of history, and lessons to be learned from them. Treating them with dignity is important. They value their lives, and we should, too.”
A native of Virginia Beach, Kristen earned a Masters of Science in clinical art therapy with children. After moving to California, she served as the activity director for St. Paul’s Senior Center. Her studies give her a unique perspective that not many people possess — as seniors age, they often have trouble hearing, seeing, and sensing, much like children. Success-oriented programming, and having an advocate who can help them clearly and quickly navigate decisions is the key to stimulating positive change in the lives of seniors.
In peculiar times like these, working with seniors offers a real “pick-me-up” to Kristen. She brightens at the memory of her work as an activities director. “It was the one moment in their day that was pure joy, for them and for me. Threading their needles, downloading Kindles — this made me a part of their family.”
