BENEFIT ON THE BAY

Sailors, anglers, yachtsmen and their families from the picturesque Southwestern Yacht Club take to the Shelter Island Yacht Basin each spring—all in the name of ElderHelp and supporting San Diego’s senior citizens. It’s a three-part event:

Charity Bay Race, a regatta on San Diego Bay, followed by an awards ceremony and fun-filled barbeque.

Beacon of Light Event, a fun evening of cocktails, hors-d’oeuvres and silent auctions followed by a rousing live auction.

Bottom Fishing Tournament and Fish Fry is the event anchor– a full day of fishing followed by a fish fry with exciting silent auctions and opportunity drawings.

ElderHelp staff and volunteers work along with Yacht Club members to make each event memorable for all in attendance.

SWYC was formed in 1925 by visionary yachtsmen looking for ways to enjoy each other’s company and to share their enthusiasm for boating.  Since then, the Club has developed into a full-service operation with nearly 750 members embracing all forms of yachting, fishing and social activities and earning a reputation as being the “friendliest club” in the area. SWYC supports not only ElderHelp, but a number of community events including the Special Olympics Sailing Program, the Junior Foundation (providing scholarships for youth sailing programs), the White Sea Bass Release project and other charitable programs.
