San Diego, CA — On Dec. 5, 2015, volunteers from UPS and ElderHelp of San Diego will be picking up gifts and flowers at ElderHelp’s headquarters, 6150 Mission Gorge Rd. and personally delivering them to hundreds of homebound seniors throughout San Diego. ElderHelp’s Holiday Angels program is made possible through a $10,000 grant from UPS, as well as support from a variety community sponsors, including Mission Federal Credit Union, SDG&E and PAWs.

The event will begin at 8:00 a.m. when more than a hundred ElderHelp and UPS volunteers and their families start arriving to pick up about 400 poinsettias, holiday gifts, gift cards and pet supplies. These holiday gifts will be delivered to more than 400 isolated seniors in their homes and two senior residential facilities.

“For more than 25 years, ElderHelp of San Diego has delivered gifts to seniors during the holiday season,” said Deborah Martin, ElderHelp of San Diego’s Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director. “This intergenerational program supported by the UPS Foundation (the charitable arm of UPS (NYSE:UPS) for the last seven years is a wonderful testament to the relationship between UPS, ElderHelp and numerous community partners to keep seniors living independently and with dignity in their own homes.”

ElderHelp does this through the Concierge Club and a dedicated corps of over 350 volunteers.

“The Concierge Club,” said Martin, “is a program that provides volunteer-based services such as assistance with grocery shopping, transportation, friendly visits, minor home repairs and gardening in the homes of San Diego seniors. The Concierge Club targets seniors who have low to moderate incomes, primarily seniors whose income is too high to qualify for public benefits, but is too low to afford private care.”
